President | I had a very real fear of public speaking for a long time, and I finally decided it was time to confront that fear once and for all. Toastmasters had been recommended to me, so I visited Northern Stars a couple of times before joining in March 2006. I found it to be a place I could practice speaking in a non-threatening environment, where I was given support and constructive advice. Since joining I have spoken in front of a variety of groups, both large and small, and although I still get a little nervous that overwhelming fear has gone!

Vice President Membership | I joined NST Club in August 2002, at the encouragement of Chris Horsman. In May of the same year, I was presented with the Volunteer for the Year 2002 Award by the Governor of SA, Her Excellency, Marjorie Jackson-Nelson. In attempting to give a speech, I was so unprepared and if I had my time all over again, with Toastmaster's experience, the speech would be very different. I was appointed a JP for SA, in January, 1991, and currently hold the position of secretary for the Barossa & Districts Justices Group. I am currently enjoying the position of VP Membership for NST Club - meeting people and encouraging them to grow personally.

Vice President Public Relations | I have been a member of Northern Stars Toastmasters Club since July 2009. Since joining I have developed not only my speaking skills at club level but now feel comfortable speaking to larger groups and even entering contests. As part of my Toastmasters journey I have thoroughly enjoyed developing my skills in speaking and also in leadership. At club level I have held the positions of Sgt @ Arms, VPM, VPPR, VPE and President. In 2015/16 I was the Area C8 Director. I am looking forward to once again being the VPPR for Northern Stars Toastmasters Club for the current Toastmasters Year.

Member | I have been a proud member of Northern Stars Toastmasters Club since 2003. All I hoped to gain initially was the confidence to speak to a large group of people. I have gained so much more from the friendship and support of the many members in the Toastmaster organisation and my own Club. I had never dreamed I would ever become a Distinguished Toastmaster. I am a retired museum curator and have a curiosity that still keeps me learning. Toastmasters allows me this opportunity.
My other passions include my four grandchildren, all my animals, gardening, reading, cooking, travelling and volunteer work.
